Stop Making Excuses And Start Your Weight Loss Program Today

Thursday, August 30th, 2007

By Steve Hill Are you the type of person who would love to lose weight but you keep putting it off for another day? There are many excuses which people make which I will write about in this article, but it is now time to become strong and to stop making excuses. Be inspired and start your weight loss program today. I have to admit that I am the type of person who a few years ago would have answered yes to the question above. In my late teens I was far to over-weight and was not happy about it. I often thought about the different ways in which I could try to become slimmer, but that is all I would do, think. These are the reasons I would make at that stage of my life, to put off my attempts at losing weight: I am too tired. In the morning, I would wake up with very good intentions. I would tell myself that after I finish work, that I would go for a short jog. I would then do some fitness work at home such as using the dumb bell weights which I had bought many months ago. I would also try a few press ups and also start watching what I was eating. I was very aware that my diet included many of those fatty foods which the experts advice people to avoid. After work, I would return home and would then make up the excuse that I am too tired. Instead of going for a jog today, I would start my fitness regime tomorrow etc. I may as well eat that fatty food which is in the fridge as other wise it is just a waste of money. I will in the future ensure that I stop buying anymore of these fatty meals, but for now I will eat it until it all goes. My body is aching. This was a regular excuse. I would tell myself that if I start exercising today, I may well do myself more damage than good. I had better for health reasons, wait until my body feels better. Of course the aches and pains were not half as bad as I was making out. I do not have enough time. I would often delay any fitness work as I always seemed to have something else to do which I believed were more important. In reality they were not and they could have easily have been completed after my hours exercise. Yet again it was just a way of me getting out of something which did not seem that fun. It could be dangerous. Going back to my idea of jogging, I then had the bright idea that it could actually be quite risky. What if I come across a madman with a knife? This would have been quite a good excuse if I was running when it was dark, for example early in the morning or late at night. This however was not the case, I had been thinking of jogging at around half past four in the afternoon. I eventually after many years decided to stop making up these excuses. I had to be determined to not only start up a fitness regime but to stick to it. It was not easy at all but after quite a long time I reached a weight which I was happy with. You can do the same, therefore stop making excuses and start your weight loss program today. Make Your Child a Magical Halloween Costume

Wednesday, August 29th, 2007

By Pauline Travers Well, Halloween is almost upon us again and those of us with children turn out thoughts to how we can make their evening that little bit extra special. Sure treat-or-treating and all that candy is fun but seeing them in their halloween costumes is even more heart-warming. So this year why not give the shops a miss and have more say in who you want your child will be by make your own kids halloween costume. With a little bit of extra effort your child can easily be the star turn of any halloween party or the most endearing kid out trick-or-treating in your neighborhood. If you’re going to make your child’s halloween costume you’d better get started. The sooner you get going the better. Leaving yourself plenty of time means you can relax and have fun collecting the bits and pieces you need to make your son or daughter’s halloween costume. So, where do you begin? Well, before you can make your kids halloween costume you need to decide together who or what they want to be. How about their favorite animal - a dog, cat, elephant, tiger or mouse. Or maybe a cartoon character - snoopy, a smurf, superman or wonderwoman. Or you could go for the more traditional halloween costumes - ghosts, witches, pumpkins, ghouls and monsters. Once you’ve decided on who or what you want to your child to be it’s time to search for items that can be used to create their halloween costume. The easiest place to start is at home and you can have great fun together, rummaging through drawers and the dress-up box. Look around from room to room and see what things you can find that might fit in with the halloween character you’ve chosen. There are the obvious items such as a bridesmaid dress which would make a great halloween fairy or angel. Don’t be too fussy at first, just grab anything that catches your eye - unwanted clothing, shoes, pieces of fabric, garbage bags, boxes, sequins, socks, ribbons, buttons, sheets etc. etc. The possibilities are endless. By spending a little extra time you should be able to come up with something a little more exciting than the hobgoblin outfits that all your neighbors children will be wearing. Maybe you could dig through the grandmas closets or those of some older cousins or friends and if you get stuck you can always try your local thrift shop or second-hand store. There’s probably a Goodwill outlet near you where you can pick your way through the rails and check out all the clothing for more halloween costume ideas for your child. Maybe some old curtains or shoes will inspire. Perhaps an odd piece of fabric or a hat will get your creative juices flowing. Don’t worry if you can’t find exactly what you’re looking for. If you’re feeling a bit stuck just start with anything that appeals to you and you’ll get more ideas as you go along. Remember, a halloween costume only needs to represent the character you want to portray. It doesn’t have to be an exact match. You’re not looking for perfection when you’re making your child’s halloween costume. Once you have a number of items start trying things on your child and and see how you can use the things you’ve found to make them a really cute halloween costume. Always bear safety mind, however. Most fabrics aren’t flame retardant so don’t use real candles in jack-lanterns. Make sure your child’s halloween costume isn’t so long that they are in danger of tripping over it. Add strips of reflective tape the dark costumes so your child can be seen easily. If you use make-up make sure it is non-toxic and try a little on your child’s wrist before putting on the face to make sure they are not allergic to it. Ensure any props are light and bendy with no sharp edges. Following these few tips were ensure that everyone is safe and happy so all your efforts in putting together your child’s halloween costume will have been worth it. ADHD And the Morning Routine

Monday, August 27th, 2007

By Angie Dixon Saying my ADHD son doesn’t wake up well would be like saying Old Faithful is a pretty big geyser. This child, age 10 and with severe ADHD, wakes up like a rock. Morning has always been a difficult time for us, even before the ADHD diagnosis. He whines. He grumbles. He shrieks. He goes back to bed. It’s like having two of me in the house! I have come up with a morning routine that takes into account his ADHD and the fact that he’s not only tired and grumpy but hasn’t had his ADHD medication yet. This routine might not work for everyone, but maybe you can use it as a starting point for a routine with your ADHD child. The main thing, I think, is to have a routine. Before I wake my ADHD son, I start the shower and put his clothes on the bed where they’re easy to find. I wake the ADHD monster, usher him into the bathroom, and wait. If I don’t hear him get in the shower after a couple of minutes, I go in and prod him. I know his ADHD makes him distractible and he’s more than half-asleep. After a few minutes of shower time I urge him to finish up, then I tell him when time’s up. Even with ADHD, my son does a pretty good job of taking his own shower most of the time. Sometimes he has shampoo in his hair when he gets out, but usually he’s clean. Because of his ADHD, he doesn’t sleep well, or enough. He catches up on his sleep on the weekends. So during the week I let him put his clothes on and get back in bed for 15-20 minutes before he brushes his teeth, takes his ADHD medication, and puts on his shoes and socks. While Jack’s back in bed catching up on ADHD-deprived sleep, I get his sister in and out of the shower and dressed. When it’s time to brush teeth and take ADHD medicine, I wake Jack again, usher him back into the bathroom, and lay out his medicine and toothbrush. I stand there as much to make sure he brushes his teeth (he forgets) as to make sure he takes his ADHD meds. Then he puts on shoes and socks and gets ready for the bus. When I make Jack’s lunch, I fix him a “snack baggie” of dry cereal, usually frosted shredded wheat. I put this in the top of his lunch bag and he eats it on the bus. This makes up for the fact that my ADHD son can’t wake up enough for breakfast. Again, this routine may not work for everyone with an ADHD child. But the point is to have a routine. It’s what helps my son get up and get going every morning, in spite of his ADHD. Angie Dixon is a writer and ADHD mom of an ADHD son, Jack. The following are some marketing techniques that you can accomplish in 30 minutes or less. Pick a few that appeal to your style. Then, write down each one on your calendar on a specific day you so you WILL accomplish this task. Another day, spend 30 minutes contacting some of these professionals via phone or e-mail to see if informal, mutually beneficial partnerships or cross-referral programs could be formed. Genital Herpes - Natural and Alternative Treatment Remedies

Thursday, August 23rd, 2007

By S.A. Smith Modern medical science has not been able to produce a cure for the herpes simplex virus (HSV) and can only offer pharmaceutical solutions that help ease the pain and speed up recovery from a genital herpes outbreak. For those that don’t want to turn to medication to manage a lifetime of outbreaks, several holistic and natural remedies may offer a safer alternative. TOPICAL TREATMENT OPTIONS While there is no cure for genital herpes, many holistic treatment resources and studies have shown that naturally occurring plants and foods are effective at managing herpes outbreaks: - bee honey - Prunella Vulgaris herb - Tea Tree oil - Lemon Balm - Aloe Vera - Eucalyptus - red marine algae SOOTHING THE PAIN During an outbreak the following daily practices will help soothe the pain and inflammation of the outbreak: - warm sitz bathes 3 - 4 times a day (sitting in a bath with your knees up) - use a hair dryer to dry the areas with outbreaks - wear loose fitting cotton underwear that is absorbent - to reduce inflammation and swelling take aspirin or ibuprofen DIET HELPERS There are several foods that researches have discovered in certain studies that have a beneficial effect on reducing the number of outbreaks people will have over time. The following foods have been noted in scientific research studies as having a positive effect: - cranberries (which naturally contain proanthocyanidin A-1) - broccoli, cabbage and brussels (which naturally contain indole-3-carbinol) - lysine supplement LIFESTYLE As genital herpes is a viral infection it is important to keep your level of overall health high and avoid getting run down mentally or physically - as this is when viruses are successful at resurfacing. As part of your daily lifestyle you should try the following: - get plenty of sleep - manage stress effectively - eat a balanced and health diet - exercise - reach out and talk to someone you can trust Since most of these genital herpes natural remedies are considered reasonably safe, it may be worth investigating these holistic options before turning to invasive and costly medical treatments. Ensure to discuss any alternative treatment strategies with your health care practitioner before starting them. S.A. Aleve, Vioxx, Celebrex, and Bextra: What You Need To Know About Arthritis Pain Medications

Tuesday, August 21st, 2007

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=R.L._Fielding] R.L. Fielding Recent controversy about the safety of pain medications for arthritis has left patients and health care professionals alike confused about which medications are safe to use. In fact, a recent survey by the Boston-based Rippe Lifestyle Institute indicated that many people with arthritis are suffering unnecessarily because they have stopped or reduced their use of pain relievers due to confusion about which drugs are considered safe. The survey also showed that now, more than ever, those with arthritis need to understand the benefits and possible side effects associated with all arthritis pain medications. In order to do so, people with arthritis, their caregivers and families must be familiar with recent news about the two types of drugs most commonly used to treat arthritis pain non-selective, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), and another group of NSAIDs known as cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) specific inhibitors. COX-2 specific inhibitors vs. Other NSAIDs COX-2 specific inhibitors are the newest members of the NSAID class of medications. Available by prescription only, they became widely used in recent years to reduce joint pain and swelling. COX-2 specific inhibitors work by selectively blocking, or inhibiting, one of the two enzymes associated with inflammation. Some experts think that this selective inhibition may be one reason for some of the negative side effects currently associated with COX-2 specific inhibitors. Non-selective NSAIDs were developed earlier than COX-2 specific inhibitors and have been widely used to relieve arthritis pain and inflammation for many years. Unlike COX-2 specific inhibitors, non-selective NSAIDs inhibit both major enzymes involved in the inflammatory process, COX-1 and COX-2. The non-selective NSAID category includes a number of different medications that are available in both prescription and over-the-counter (OTC) products. Timeline of Events To understand the current state of affairs, it is important to understand the sequence of events. The controversy started when a study published in the October 21, 2004, issue of the New England Journal of Medicine cited the COX-2 specific inhibitor, Vioxx as potentially causing major adverse events, including heart attack and stroke, among patients taking the drug. As a result, Merck (the drugs manufacturer) voluntarily withdrew Vioxx from the market. However, in the months following, the safety of the other available COX-2 specific inhibitors such as Celebrex and Bextra, as well as other arthritis pain medications in the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory (NSAID) class, were also called into question. Consequently, in February 2005, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) convened a special Advisory Committee, made up of members of the Arthritis and Drug Safety Advisory Committees, to review the cardiovascular safety of these arthritis pain medications. FDA Directive: Stronger Warning Labels for Some Pain Medications On April 7, 2005, taking into account the recommendations of the Advisory Committee, the FDA issued the following directives: Bextra, a COX-2 specific inhibitor manufactured by Pfizer, was withdrawn from the market. All prescription NSAIDs must revise their labeling to include a black box warning that highlights the potential increased risk for cardiovascular (CV) events as well as the potentially life threatening gastrointestinal (GI) bleeding associated with these drugs. Celebrex, the only COX-2 specific inhibitor remaining on the US market, was included in this directive. All OTC NSAIDs (except aspirin) will be required to revise their labeling to include more specific information about the potential for GI and CV side effects, a stronger reminder to follow label instructions, as well as a warning about potential skin reactions. To further evaluate the potential for increased CV risk, the FDA also announced that all NSAIDs must conduct and submit to the FDA a comprehensive review and analysis of pertinent safety data from clinical trials. Aleve (naproxen sodium) is supported by clinical studies conducted to gain approval of naproxen as a prescription product and as OTC that do not provide any evidence of increased risk of cardiovascular events. Treatment Options: What Should Arthritis Patients Know? For some people who suffer from pain associated with arthritis, their symptoms can be managed with exercise, heat/cold therapy, joint protection, assistive devices, weight control, or in some severe cases, surgery. For others, medications are needed to help manage the symptoms associated with arthritis. When taken as directed OTC medications such as Aleve provide a safe and effective way to treat mild to moderate pain of minor arthritis. If patients have questions, they should consult their health care professional about which treatment option is most appropriate. Why Its Important to Treat Arthritis Arthritis affects approximately 66 million Americans and is the nations leading cause of disability. There are over 100 different types of arthritis, and they all have different symptoms that vary in severity from person to person. The most common form of arthritis, osteoarthritis, is characterized by the breakdown of cartilage that causes the bones to rub together, resulting in pain, loss of movements and stiffness. Arthritis is usually a chronic condition. For more information on Aleve and naproxen, visit the Aleve website at [http://www.aleve.com] www.aleve.com. How To Properly Plan And Host A Bridal Shower Tea Party

Monday, August 20th, 2007

By Gregg Hall All weddings are special occasions. A bridal shower is meant to pamper your little girl or your best friend before they begin a whole new life. But in this day and age people have very little time for too complicated affairs to be arranged. To avoid too elaborate planning and arrangements simply plan a bridal shower tea party, which can be a lot of fun with little confusion or headache. In case you want an elaborate party, it is best to outsource the entire preparation to the wedding planner who you have chosen for the wedding. The history of Tea Parties The British working class, who loved to relish their tea in leisure during breaks, originally established tea parties. It soon spread to all classes and all countries around the world as an immensely popular and extravagant affair. Most people enjoy snacks being served with tea. The other is the “high” tea party where the tea is served with heavy snacks or a meal later in the evening. Most of the time the best of linen, teapot warmers, silver ware and china are used to add grace to the party. If the bridal shower is over high tea, use fine silver, scented candles and small dim lights along with mellow music. This lends an air of refined and elegant ambience. But if you like a lot of jazz and dance then you should definitely arrange for a groovy DJ who will rock your party with the latest music and shaking bodies. For an afternoon tea party, serve in a buffet style with appropriate decorations for the various dishes on offer. Snacks for the afternoon tea party should be fluffy and tasty biscuits, sandwiches, sweets, teacakes, salads and cookies with very light desserts. Add the personal touch with the bride’s name on the special cake and decor. Create fantastic favors for the bridal shower with innovative flower and gift arrangement. You can also make it memorable with jazzy songs and performances for entertainment. One other thing that most people like to do at bridal showers is to play games. Bridal shower games are meant to be entertaining and fun. Guests can also narrate various stories and anecdotes on love to celebrate the eternal joy of wedding. There are numerous different styles of bridal showers you can throw. You do not have to stick with the usual bridal shower. You can pick from any colors and play any type of games that you think would be something the bride would enjoy. The sky is the limit! Gregg Hall is an author living in Navarre Florida. Cosmetic Surgery Surgeons: How To Select A Good One

Sunday, August 19th, 2007

By Nicola Kennedy Making the decision to undergo cosmetic surgery can be an overwhelming and life-changing decision. However, the question of choosing the right surgeon for the job can leave you equally perplexed. There is no dearth of cosmetic surgeons, but it is imperative that you chose a surgeon with loads of experience in the field of cosmetic surgery. You may find an expert surgeon in your vicinity, or you might have to travel a few hundred miles in your quest for the best. But the initial botheration will surely yield fruitful results. To expedite your search for an expert cosmetic surgeon, it is crucial that you crosscheck their credentials prior to undergoing surgery. Check if they are certified by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons or some other prominent cosmetic surgery board. You could crosscheck your states medical board to verify the surgeons credentials. Having narrowed down on one or two superlative surgeons it is time for an elaborate consultation. The most common aspects that you may focus on during an initial consultation are as follows:- - You may inquire about the cosmetic surgeons area of expertise. - Ensure that the surgeon has performed a substantial number of cosmetic surgery procedures. - Make sure that the surgeon wields the best technological equipment available. - If price is a factor, check if the expenses incurred meet your budget. - Ask the surgeon for pictures of his/her earlier patients, depicting both pre and post-surgery images. - Cosmetic surgery, like any other surgical procedure, involves risks and complications. The surgeon must not dismiss the risks of surgery, and should be willing to discuss any possible complication of cosmetic surgery. - Most importantly, ensure that the surgeon will be actively involved in post-operative care. - And finally, shun away any sales gimmicks or unrealistic bargains. On the whole, an excellent result largely depends on the expertise of the cosmetic surgeon. Hence, choose a surgeon with discretion, since a successful cosmetic surgery could give you a huge boost. Read This Article if You Love Sushi

By Lance Winslow Do you love good Sushi? What is it about raw fish that is so enjoyable to eat? A slab of your favorite Sashimi can truly make your day. You know if I were a shark in the ocean, I think I might be very happy, swimming around eating my favorite sushi. Of course being a Dolphin would be cool too. And just think how much less it would cost to eat rather than cruising into an expensive Japanese Restaurant? Just swim up to your most tasty choice for the day, pick from the menu and take a bite size sample and smile. Sounds good doesnt it. It appears the taste for sushi is an acquired taste to many in the Western World but an innate taste in Asian and other countries. Yet we all know that seafood has been one of mankinds favorite dishes for thousands of years. In fact most of human civilizations live near the water, probably because this is where we have always gotten much of our food. Thus it stands to reason from an evolutionary standpoint that humans would automatically like sushi? Although some say; why would anyone eat raw fish? Well, because it is great and you need to explain this to friends and treat them to sushi so they understand why people love sushi so much. Satellite Video Phones

Thursday, August 16th, 2007

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Jason_Gluckman]Jason Gluckman Satellite video phones have a wide range of usage right from wars to domestic needs. They are highly efficient in beaming live footage of war from war-ridden nations where other modes of communication have failed. War correspondents and journalists use these phones to transmit news from places that do not have cellular coverage. Today satellite video phones are not just restricted to war usage, but have made large inroads into the domestic sector as well. These days, video phones are deployed in ambulances and petroleum installations, located in remote areas, and in other varied applications. The major advantage of satellite video phones is that it can broadcast live from any part of the world. The phone has a wide market right from storm chasers to medical fraternity. Besides the live video and normal voice call features, the satellite video phones also have video conferencing. This technological advancement allows one to transmit data and video from remote places. The satellite video phones have excellent picture quality suitable to 64 or 128 kbps Integrated Services digital Network (ISDN), because they use compression algorithms to make the video excellent. You can also transmit high quality audio signals and low speed pictures. Satellite video phones use custom designed input output processor which optimizes the transmission and provides video signals for both professional and domestic phone connections. Satellite phone connections are easy to set up in places like war fields or during expeditions. A flat surface, free of dust and grime, should be ideal to situate a satellite video phone. Then you should tune in the phones for peak signal, which is usually quick and easy. The process involves setting up the satellite video phone, dialing up to the satellite and then broad casting starts in about five minutes. Initially, satellite video phones cost a whopping $50,000 and weighted above 100 pounds. Today, the latest phones hardly weigh 10 pounds and are much smaller in size. Satellite video phones are recommended for use who need portable and reliable systems to deliver high precision video coverage from anywhere in the world.
